Bio
Originally hailing from Rosthern Saskatchewan (a pretty prairie town just north of Saskatoon) Kelly took up the banjo while still in Junior High School after hearing Earl Scruggs play the theme from the Beverly Hillbillies, on TV.
Now living in Winnipeg with his family, Kelly's playing continues to be rooted in the Scruggs tradition, though JD Crowe's influence is also obvious. A fan of all kinds of music -- from Ravel to Ricky Skaggs, Kelly also isn't afraid to mix it up on stage, whether it's a straight-up version of Scruggs' Foggy Mountain Breakdown, or a crazed version of Stevie Wonder's Sir Duke.
With the release of Ground Speed, Kelly steps out with a mix of Bluegrass, Country and Old Tyme tunes chosen to appeal to all fans of traditional acoustic music, young and old.
