Rules and Regulations

The Winnipeg Bridge Club, operating under government charter, is hosting the fifteenth annual Charter Pools Winnipeg NFL Playoff Betpool. This year, for the second time, eligibility has been opened to the general public. The rules of the Betting Pool are simple and largely unchanged from previous years.

1

Players purchase entries before participating. Entries cost $15.00 U.S. ($20.00 Canadian) each. Please make cheques payable to:

Colin Ward

And send them to:

685 Pritchard Avenue
Winnipeg, Manitoba
CANADA R2W-2K6

Please ensure that your email address (if any) is written on the back of your cheque.
2

Each entry starts at 1000 points ("dollars").
3

Lines will be be emailed to entrants. The leader board will also be updated and emailed to entrants each week.
4

Winning a bet adds the amount wagered to your total; amounts wagered on losing bets are subtracted from your total. Ties leave cash totals unaffected. No "vig" or "juice" is applied to any bets. Assets bet on a tied result cannot be re-wagered that same week.
5

Entrants may wager no more than their day-start entry total. Each day of play (e.g. the Wild Card games constitute two separate days: Saturday and then Sunday) produces a new day-start total, allowing the entrant to start afresh the next day. For example, on your first day you may wager up to 1000 points.
6

The Caslake Rule: No single wager may constitute more than half of the day-start total of the entry unless that entry's day-start total is $500 or less. For example, on your first day of play you may wager no more than (1000 / 2 =) 500 in any one bet. To commit their total assets, then, entrants starting a day with more than 500 points will have to make at least two separate bets.

N.B.: This does not mean that entrants with more than 500 points cannot bet their entire day-start total on one GAME; only that the entrant must bet that game at least two different ways (see Rule #11 below).
7

Bets may be placed by email to cpw@escape.ca, phone (1-204-586-2401 or, if no answer, 1-204-287-8805), snail mail (postmarked 24 hours or more before game time, received no later than the following Tuesday), at the Winnipeg Bridge Club (Osborne Legion, Winnipeg) or in person. Betting ceases and wagers become final at kickoff time.
8

Entries may be purchased at any time before or during the NFL Playoffs. Participation is open to all except where prohibited by law.
9

100% of entry fees are returned to entrants in the prize pool. 65% of the total pool monies go to the entry with the highest year end total. Second prize of 35% goes to the 2nd highest total.
10

Entrants may not allow knowledge of another entrant's wagers to affect their own betting decisions.
11

Participants may wager in any of four fashions, based upon the four separate lines for each game to be posted to the rec.gambling.sports newsgroup each week:

a) Against the Vegas-style line.

b) On the Over/Under line (total points scored by both teams during the game). [The Over/Under line is based on the total points scored by and against these two teams during the regular season.]

c) On the Close/Carnage line (the difference in scores between the two teams, regardless of which team wins the game). [The Close/Carnage line is calculated based upon the Vegas-style odds line.]

d) On the Outside/Inside line (whether more points are scored in the 1st and 4th--"outside"--quarters or the 2nd and 3rd--"inside"--quarters of play). Overtime scoring does not count for Outside/Inside bets.
