Witamy - Links to Polish Resources

This Web page is devoted to trying to keep Polish culture and language alive. Nie mowie po polsku, but I'm trying my best to learn. I am finding that the Polish people do not put much effort into keeping their culture front and center in the public's mind, the way that the Celtics, Scotch, Irish, and Native Canadians, do.

This is not the fault of the above mentioned racial groups, but I find that Poles (and the other Slavic races) who come to Canada want to integrate as much as possible with mainstream society and for some reason want to leave their culture and traditions second priority. Makes me feel like writing a letter of complaint to the CRTC, but I've so far been too lazy to do this. So I will do my part to narrow the difference right here, even if by a bit.

So here goes.

Basically I'm 50% Polish & 50% Ukranian. My Dad's mother was born at Trembawla Poland. My Dad's father was born at Horodenka Ukraine. My Mom's mother was born at Kopyczynce Poland. Unfortunately, my Mom's father passed away when my Mom was only 6 years old and therefore not much is known about him. All ancestors were born in the Ukranian province of Ternopil, which at the time was part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire.

To start off with learning about what Poles are discussing in current events, please check the newsgroup soc.culture.polish. Most of the discussions will be in the Polish language, but there are enough in English to get an idea for what they are talking about. Also this is a great way to learn the Polish language, grammar, and syntax.

Being Polish makes me basically Roman Catholic, as 95% of the population of Poland is Roman Catholic. [SOURCE: CIA World FactBook].

So it goes that I have provided links to some of the best Roman Catholic resources. Some of this information is historical manuscripts, biographies of all the Popes, as well as GIFs and JPEGS of famous paintings.
