Steiregger (Austria)

Formation

This is a 6 part waltz. Each part is 16 bars long. Some of the parts are slightly different from the original. The dance is done twice. Double Circle round the room with man on the inside, all facing anticlockwise, hold inside hands with your partner, and men hold the left shoulder of the man in front.

Instructions

  1. Waltz balance away, bringing inside hands forward. Waltz balance towards, bringing inside hands back. Repeat for 16 bars.
  2. Man lets go of man's shoulder in front. Spin lady under man's right arm, once round in a clockwise direction. Still holding hands, Man runs round lady in a clockwise direction. Repeat 3 times.
  3. Face partner, take a cross hand hold Spin to the left .(Moving to the left, step left,close with right, step on left, put your right foot behind your left, step left with left foot and close with right) Repeat for 8 bars. Spin to the right.(Moving to the right, step right,close with left, step on right, put your left foot behind your right, step right with right foot and close with left) Repeat for 8 bars.
  4. Lady waltzes on the spot,half trying to face away from the man, in a sort of tease. Man waltzes around the lady in an attempt to face the lady.
  5. Face partner, men facing anticlockwise round the circle, ladies facing clockwise. Take a cross hand hold, with right hand on top. Swing hands to the man's left, then to his right, then to his left. Lady follows through one complete turn to form a window, with the arms. Lady then waltzes backwards, and man forwards in an anticlockwise direction, peering at each other through the window. Just before the end of the 16 bars unwind, and get into a ballroom hold.
  6. Waltz for 16 bars in an anticlockwise direction.
