Doublebska Polka (Czechoslovakia)

Formation

Double circle round the room. Men face their partners with their backs to the centre. Take your partner in a ballroom hold.

Instructions

  1. Polka 16 times in an anticlockwise direction or where ever there is room( forward on front foot, close with back foot, forward with front foot, hop and turn to the man's right on front foot, then repeat starting on back foot and turning to the man's left when hopping).
  2. Open waist hold, walk anti-clockwise round the circle. Men put their left hand out in front and hold on to the left shoulder of the next man in front. So that you eventually form a circle. Do this for 16 bars.
  3. Men face into the centre, whilst ladies continue to walk round the circle.
    • Men clap hands two times
    • Men clap the left hand of the man on your right with your right hand, and at the same time you clap the right hand of the man on your left with your left hand (2x)
    • Men clap hands two times
    • Men slap thighs two times
    • Men clap hands two times
    • Men slap floor two times
    • Men slap thighs two times
    • Men clap hands two times
  4. Repeat 3 one and a half times
  5. Men turn round and start the dance again, with the lady nearest to them.
  • This dance could alternate between having men and having the ladies doing the clapping part.
