ARES Manitoba Monthly DIGITAL Readiness Net

Welcome

The ARES Manitoba Monthly DIGITAL Readiness Net runs in parallel with the ARES Manitoba Monthly Readiness Net, on the fourth Sunday of each month at 4 pm local time. All licensed Amateur Radio operators are welcome to participate in the net.

In accordance with suggested RAC National HF EMCOMM Frequencies , this net is held on 3597.5 kHz. Currently, we use bpsk31, although, I'm usually available after the net to try different modes.

Software

Software capable of operating bpsk31 is available for all the major computer operating systems. Here is a table summarizing some of the more popular software, the platforms on which they can run and from where they're available.

Hardware

To operate the digital modes, you will need these things:

Where is the Net?

For those of you who operate digital modes in USB, you can place your transceiver on 3596 kHz and the net should appear around 1500 Hz on the waterfall. If you typically operate digital modes in LSB, tune to 3599 kHz for the net to appear at 1500 Hz on the waterfall.

The bpsk mode is sideband independent, so no further configuration of your digital software is necessary to receive the net. If you prefer to have the signal elsewhere on your waterfall, any combination of transceiver frequency plus waterfall frequency (for USB) or transceiver frequency minus waterfall frequency (for LSB) should equal 3597.5 kHz to find the net.

If your transceiver uses a "DIGITAL" mode, and you're unsure if it is equivalent to USB or LSB, try both combinations above, you're sure to find us at one of them.
