I use a bicycle speedometer which works very well and provides over 14 functions including speed, average, speed, trip counter, and many other functions. The speedo is made by SIGMA and I used the model 1200. This speedo is used on many applications including motorcycles and racing go karts because it is very accurate. Chances are that a recycled motorcycle speedometer will not work very accurately since the buggy wheels are likely to be a different size. With the SIGMA, any wheel size can be easily programmed in. The wire that connects the unit to the rear pick-up needs to be made longer . See their web site at: http://www.cccyclery.com/sigmasp.html Also, see the following web page for additional mounting information: http://www.kartingtechinfo.com/tech/mph.htm I added a "Tiny Tach" which is a very accurate tachometer and hour meter combined. These are available for under $50 on eBay or from dealers. I single wire is simply wrapped around the spark plug wire to provide the required signal to the unit. Visit the Tiny Tach web site at: http://www.tinytach.com/tinytach/index.php |
