Bringing Her Home!

My 1970 Dart Swinger was bought in southern Michigan in the USA.  My son and I drove out there to pick up the the car and drive it back, with the truck as a "chase" vehicle in case of breakdown.  The Dart had been sitting for 12 years so all the seals were now dried out and a considerable amount of oil was blown through the engine on the way back home to Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada.  The drive back was mostly uneventful except for running out of gas and filling in lots of engine and tranny oil that leaked out.

In order to speed up the trip there and back home, the previous owner agreed to meet us in a small town on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan and delivered the Dart on a car trailer.  Here i am seeing the car for the first time and giving it the inspection.  I knew I was in for a fair bit of work, as expected on a 35 year old car, but it would be worth it since this was a very rare matching numbers 1970 Dart Swinger 340 with factory buckets, console, rally dash with tach, power brakes and steering, light package, tinted glass all around, and many other nice options.  A lot of extra documentation was also provided as well as a perfect original factory build sheet which was a real bonus.

Here I am taking over ownership of my Dart from the previous owner and getting ready for the long drive back home.  The dude with the shades on the left is the new proud owner!

Overview of the condition of the Dart Swinger:

This next series of pictures shows condition of the car at purchase time.  The car needs new rear quarter parch panels, front left and right floor pans, new seat covers, headliner, engine overhaul, new front end bushings, and significant detailing throughout.  Overall, the car was actually very solid since all the frame rails were in god shape as were all the other body panels.  The bumpers also need chroming but are in excellent shape as is the grill and all other interior parts.
