Our roots really
began with the Model Aircraft League of Manitoba (MALM) which
was a multi-disciplined group that represented all flyers in
the Manitoba region but this group disbanded in 1965-66 when
the nucleus of the club formed the Winnipeg Radio Control Club
(WRCC). Those control line enthusiasts, who remained loosely
banded together formed the Winnipeg Flying Circle Club in 1966.
The Flying Circle lasted but a few years and was basically gone
by 1972-73. In the mid to late 70's, a loosely organised group
of control-liners also existed in the area. They flew demonstrations
at many of the Wpg Blue Bomber football games at half time but
this group soon lost momentum and gradually fragmented itself
into oblivion. However, some of the original MALM members and
Flying Circle members returned to control line in the early to
mid 80's and quickly met up with some of the 70's group. By 1987
the participants were ready to try the current format.
The Winnipeg
Perfect Circle Flying Club was formed as the result of a collaborative
effort of approximately 10 individuals who recognised that flying
on their own was not as much fun as flying with others. This
began in the year 1987 and the club became affiliated with MAAC
in 1988.
Over a period of at least 5 years a rag-tag bunch of
control liners in the Winnipeg area would randomly cross each
others paths during the short flying season. So to make a long
story short, the group decided that it would be a good idea to
form a MAAC affiliated club and attempt the process of growing
to a respectable size.
The initial intent was to simply promote
control line activity in all respects. A prime goal was to promote
building, skills & technology with all who desired to undertake
the discipline. In a very short time (less than 3 years) the
group grew to 25 and again within a few more years grew to almost
50 members. Many have passed through and moved on to other areas
of the hobby. Most have stayed with the hobby and now enjoy our
new flying site and activities. Currently our membership hovers
near the 30 mark.

We haven't
looked back since. Our club has
an annual FUNTEST each year and members fly regularly at our
Kilcona Park flying field every Wednesday evening and Saturday/Sunday
afternoons. The many facets of control line flying are represented
within the club and we extend an invitation to everyone to join
us. |
