Alexander and Grace (Wallace)
McMorran
Alexander, son of Matthew and Sarah (McGee) McMorran
was born in 1825 at Magherscouse Townland, Parish of Comber, County Down,
Northern Ireland. We think he had two brothers and one sister, Daniel,
William and Margaret.
Grace Wallace daughter of Mr. & Mrs.( Robert
or William ) Wallace was born in Northern Ireland in 1823. Grace named
her first son William,so he may have been named after her father.
There is a bridge called Wallace's bridge just
due east of Ballygowan ,so we assumed the Wallace's lived near there. The
following is a picture of my Great father.Alexander Mcmorran
Alexander and Grace were married January 9, 1846
at Ballygowan Presbyterian church, Northern Ireland. Two years after they
were married Alexander said " I believe Grace we will sail for America"
Two weeks later they were on the water, bringing their small son William
with them.
The trip from Belfast Northern Ireland to Canada
took six weeks and three days. They landed at Toronto, then known as "Muddy
York" and continued north of the city to Richmond Hill. Here they
operated a hotel. Alexander's obituary states that he carried on an extensive
coopering business.Later they moved to Paisley, Ontario. They had eleven
children
Wallace
William or Robert Wallace were both on the Magherscouse
voters list 1813-1821 In 1835 William had a 36acre farm In 1835 Robert
had a 16 acre farm There is a bridge called Wallace's bridge just due east
of Ballygowan. Ballygowan and Magerscouse were townslands in the parish
of Comber, County Down, Northern Ireland. We don't know the name of the
Mother, but there were four children. Lizzie Wallace
who married Alexander Ledgerwood, settled on Lot 46, Concession A in Greenock
Township. Isabella Wallace married John Megraw, and
Robert Wallace who lived in Greenock Township for
