This was the first foam core building I attempted, so
I wanted to try something simple, and something that would not look too awful if
it looked... awful. This fit the bill: It is a ruin, after all.
I built the basic shell, and it looked sort of OK, but not messy enough. (I drew the plans for the walls on foamcore, then 'removed' a corner before I cut them out. As a result the damaged edges are rather 'soft' instead of following broken courses of bricks.)
With this much damage there should be a LOT more rubble, but this would have made the building less useful: My rationale is that Scavs have taken away anything they could reuse or sell.
I tried to scuff & litter up the inside, and to add smoke stains on the walls. To grubby the floor I used sawdust scatter rather than sand, since it would be less likely to damage the finish on figures. I put smoke stains above the windows as well.
My KZ setting has a lot of Gangs, Scavs, Factions, and Rebel groups, so I added gang graffiti,
and the ubiquitous "Get Into Taxpaying!" posters.
I used to have an Amiga and tried to buy software as Amiga stores disappeared one by one. We actually drove to Chicago in search of a mythical Amiga shop, and drove up & down the same block for an hour because the shop didn't have a sign. It was satisfying to put a burned-out Amiga dealer in this shell. The signs were cut from an old computer magazine.
I used a magazine ad for the various posters, and added some semi-illiterate graffiti defacing the PETA poster way up on the wall.
To help eliminate the blind corner I added a pile of garbage in the rear corner, forming a firing platform.
The base is beaver board, with litter and graffiti. The plants are dyed foam, and the filth on the floor is mostly sawdust. The rubble is styrofoam, kitty litter, and wood splinters.
