The Poodle Shop

The Poodle Shop is a fashionable store to buy all things poodle: Poodle dresses, sweaters, suits. Nothing sceams chic like clothes that make YOU look like a poodle!

Next door is the Adult Bookstore ('Cum see our new kid's section!') (Before you start sending me letters, it doesn't say 'Kiddie Porn': It say's 'Kid's Section' This is a Family porn shop.)

The Poodle Shop is inspired by a local shop that was (in the 1950's) a movie theatre. It is constructed from foamcore, covered with colour photocopies of brickpaper from a railway shop. (I've had it kicking around for 20+ years) You could of course buy the stuff and it would work out about the same in price.

The front of the building is recessed, and there are two decorative pieces in relief on the front edges of the building. The relief pieces are cardboard covered in brickpaper.

The decorative cornice(?) is cardboard punched with a hole punch. The Poodle Shop sign is printed on my computer and glued to light card. (Which warped, dash it: Let it dry UNDER something before folding it!)

The floors (there is a second floor) and roof are heavy card, and are removable: An air conditioning unit on the roof (made from craft blocks & sticks) provides a removal handle.

The doors open and close, and are medium card with a wire hinge. There is a rear drainpipe made from a bamboo skewer.

The Adult Bookstore

I needed a cultural centre for my city, and felt that this would be it. It too is made from foamcore, and the doors and roof are similar to those of the Poodle Shop.

The sign is made from stick-on letters from a craft store. The banners and pictures of new releases were printed on my computer. (Illustrations suitable for the new releases can be found in many places on the internet.) Posters on the upper side wall are from a UK men's magazine. There is an electrical conduit by the back door, made from spaghetti.

The fences in the rear are made from craft sticks, scored in the middle to look like 2 boards, and cut to length. There are bits of vegetation growing along the rear of the fence, and graffitti covers the front.

The dumpster and sacks in the parking lot are from Ainsty Castings. The Hummvee is from a dollar store.

The figures running about are from Shadowforge Miniatures and can be seen better in my gallery.
