Like the Factory these aren't my own creation: They are K-Line and Plasticville Railway models. Although marketed for S/O-guage, the K-line models are 1/64th, while the Plasticville is 1/48th. As a result, they each have their own problems/difficulties.
Having built these, plus the Factory, I have to say that although they look good on the table, I'm not sure the effort taken to make them useable is worth the trouble. The time might be better spent just making them from scratch.

This ia a K-Line kit. As such, in spite of it's scale, the doors are too small: I had to add two courses of bricks to the front door frame and make a new door from plastic card. The front windows were slabs with raised lettering: I discarded these and replaced them with steel plates with firing slits. The other windows had thick, opaque windows that fit behind the bars. I didn't like the look, so I left them off. It makes it all too obvious that there isn't enough room inside for anything of note, (and that it's empty) but I still like the look better. I used some oversize traffic cones to create barricades at the front designed to keep cars from ramming the building. |

I did add an interior divider
between the 'carport' and the rest, and a removable floor for the upper storey.
As always, the roof is removable.
There is plenty of parking space for my various Police vehicles, or in this case, a dumpster and garbage truck. (The dumpster is made from plastic card, the garbage truck is from a Dollar Store) I painted the building a pale yellow with white trim, and washed the whole with a brown 'Magic Wash.' I added a mailbox (GO POSTAL) and rubbish/litter to the front of the base. I should have added more litter to the roof, and will have to do so. Signs and posters were printed on my computer. The base is beaver board. |

Since this building is a
'Plasticville' kit, it is 1/48th scale. As such, the doors were way too big.
On the other hand, it makes for a dam' impressive building.
I had to cut open the doors, shorten them and make wire hinges so they would open and close cleanly. There is a door on the back of the bank, and I put a plate over it. (I chose to ignore the 'drive through' window being too high up.) It's not readily visible, but I used decorative paper to make a floor for the bank. I have not added any interior counters, desks, etc. although I will have to make them if I plan to run a bank holdup/hostage rescue scenario. |

I ground off the
'Plasticville Bank' sign from the front of the building, and replaced it with a
sign printed on my computer.
Since there was room left on the base, I added a newspaper box, a pair of benches and an overflowing trash can to the front. I had considered a statue on a pillar, but I already have one elsewhere, so... The benches are made from craft sticks, and the trash can from a piece of dowel hollowed out with a dremel tool. |

The only other change was to attach the chimneys to the roof rather than to the building. I left the building it's red plastic colour, and painted it white, wiping away the paint to show the brick detail. I don't actually have any fire engines, so the building remains empty, but it looks good and helps fill the table. |
