My third
project: I wanted a building with an elevated sniper position. It has been very
useful as a scenario hook as well: The Glorious Leader visits regularly (he is
very dutiful) and it's a security nightmare. And yes, the tower attracts players
like crazy. They all want the high ground. (I prefer getting a position with a
good view of the tower so I can take out their sniper.) I also use it as a base
for the Renegade Nuns in "Macho Women With Guns."
This building has some working doors, and some open doors. The front doors have metal strips from aluminum Coke cans wrapped around wire staples set into the walls, while the grille is hinged with twisted wire loops wrapped around the upright bar.
The
roof is just pieces of beaver board, although I may replace it with a Mexican
tile roof as in my Maximilian Adventure buildings.
I have left the windows empty, as they have all been "shot out" and the interior is bare as it has been stripped. I left some carpeting and a makeshift cross, as the church is trying to stay functional.
Signs were printed on my computer, and the figure of Mary and the crucifix in Gold are pins from a dollar store. I have a bell (purchased in a dollar store) for the tower, but I never have the bell and the church in the same place at the same time. I may not bother, as it would make it more difficult to place figures in the lower position of the tower.
I
added the usual litter to the street, but I didn't add graffiti to the building,
as I have seen little if any graffiti on churches in real life. (This may have
changed).
The walls are painted grey, and then textured with brush-on "stone" acrylic paint. (Granite, I think.) It gives a good look, and I have thought of using it elsewhere. There are also spray-on acrylic stone finishes that would bear looking into.
If you want statues of saints, etc. try craft shops for cake decorating pieces and the like, or small creche figures. They can be painted or left "as is."
