SHOTGUNS Suggested rules for scatterguns in 'The Rules With No Name.' SHOTGUNS by Steve Flack While Foundry's shotgun rules are probably realistic given the quality and accuracy of the original weapons of the period, we did not find the mechanism particularly intuitive, resulting in a slowing down of the firing resolution. As we have been using the 'Rules with No Name' for participation games around the shows, we needed an alternative mechanism that could be quickly grasped by players who were unfamiliar with the rules. The following rules were devised, which as far as possible use modifiers already found in the rifle and pistol firing rules. These, coupled with a set of cone-shaped templates to quickly calculate who is in the 'danger zone', allowed the results of firing shotguns to be quickly worked out.
Either one or both barrels can fire in an action - declare before firing. Either or both barrels can be reloaded in one action. Normal rules for out of ammo and jamming do not apply. Place the point of the template at the base of the firing figure, and the centre line of template over the target. Then work out deviation. Deviation Deviation is measured from the outside edge of the template (maximum range), left or right of the centre line. Throw 1 red (deviation left) and 1 white (deviation right) D6. Difference is amount of deviation. Legends can correct deviation by up to 2", shootists can correct by 1". Aimed shots can correct by 1". Firing Calculate the number of hits for each figure within the firing template
Any figure in or partially in the inner cone of fire applies inner cone modifier Any figure in or partially outside the outer cone of fire tests as for outer cone Damage as per pistol/rifle chart.
