ASSINIBOIA CHRISTIAN CENTRE RESOURCE LIBRARY

The former St. Chad’s (Anglican) and Blessed John XXIII (R.C.) libraries are now combined into the A.C.C. Resource Library using the Dewey Decimal System.

Cataloguing of over 1,000 books was done by Barbara Frame (Rtd. Librarian) and Nell Ramsay with Joan Burgess doing the typing. Assisting also were: Beryl Frederick, Sheila Welbergen, Barbara Macdonell, Estelle Boissonneault and Jenna Levesque. Al McMurdie, Joe Ploquin, John Baziuk, Jose Barrera helped install the shelving; Steve Csizmadia and Bill Ramsay the vertical filing cabinet. Donna Moran, Norma Pittman, Kitty Piper, Fran Majkut and Audrey Kelly assisted as well. Rob Paquin was also very helpful.

The Opening was held September 15/02 with the Blessing by Fr. G. Shields and Msgr. N. Chartrand, assisted by Deacon G. McCallum. St. Chad’s Children’s Choir, directed by Pat Johnson, sang a hymn beautifully, as did Beverley Hewitt. Thanks to all who attended, donated food, helped set up, especially Ann Hunt, Audrey Kelly, Joan Burgess, Donna Moran and Chris Mozol. Special thanks to Jenna Levesque for attending to the guest book, to Breanne Hearsum for decorating, to Steve Hewitt, Gil Frederick and Bill Ramsay for taking pictures. Thanks also to Joan Burgess and her mother for the plant and angel decorations, as well as Mrs. Eleanor Becker for her tatted angels.

The total donations of $50.00 will be used to buy books for the Children’s section which is very limited. The Youth section is limited as well, so donations of suitable books, or gifts of money, would be gratefully accepted. Let us help our young people become “religiously literate”! The Adult section is well stocked with a wide variety of books which could help readers to explore, deepen, broaden and update their Christian faith, as well as to learn about other world religions so as to become more understanding of them.

Volunteers will be needed to staff the library, to circulate the materials and to shelve the books. Sign-up schedule is at the back of the church – so far, 2 people have signed up. Join “The Friends of the A.C.C. Resource Library” to make the A.C.C. Resource Library a success! No dues – just fellowship and fun in spreading the “Good News” through the Library – everyone is welcome!

Finally, a grateful acknowledgment of thanks to Fr. G. Shields, Msgr. N. Chartrand and Rev. Deacon G. McCallum for their on-going support, culminating in the beautiful Blessing of the A.C.C. Resource Library.
