Worship Service The Sunday morning worship experience at Fort Garry EMC includes many of the historical components of Protestant Christian worship: Gathering and worshiping God with singing, listening to the reading of Scripture and hearing it interpreted in the sermon, and responding with prayer, music, financial offerings, sharing, silence and so on. Then we are sent out to live as God's scattered people in our homes and other places of human interaction. Stylistically we incorporate ancient and modern, probably placing ourselves near the middle of the spectrum between "liturgical" and "charismatic." Two Sundays a month the singing is led by a Praise Group (a few singers with piano, guitars, bass, perhaps with drums, flute or violin). Other Sundays feature a songleader and the piano. We use both contemporary chorus-style songs and various styles of hymns. Regular scripture reading is sometimes replaced by Reader's Theatre or a skit. We include children through monthly stories or by having them help with some other part of the service. Guest speakers address us in January for Missions and Social Concerns month. Our themes continue for a few months at a time, sometimes topical, sometimes working through a book of the Bible or looking at a series of Biblical characters. Communion is celebrated once a month. You are welcome to join us. It will not be the same each Sunday and only God knows how you will respond to Him in worship! David Kruse |
