| Biography
Paul ScoonFormer Governor GeneralGrenada Sir Paul Scoon, GCMG, has had a long career in education and public administration. He was born in 1935. After studying in the UK he received a Master’s degree in Education at the University of Toronto and he returned to teach at the Grenada Boys’ Secondary School. He served as chief education officer and permanent secretary in the prime minister’s office before heading the Grenada civil service. In 1973 he was seconded to the post of deputy director of the Commonwealth Foundation in London. He left in 1978 to become governor general of Grenada. Throughout his career Sir Paul has played an active part in community affairs. He was co-founder and president of the Secondary School Teachers’ Association and was also a member of the board of governors of the Centre for International Briefing at Farnham Castle in the UK. Since leaving office in July 1992, Sir Paul has served as chairman of the Grenada Board of Tourism. He is currently a director on the board of the Grenada Industrial Development Co-operation and chairman of St John Council which oversees the local St John Ambulance Association Sir Paul has received several honours. In 1984 he was named Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. He received an OBE from the Queen in 1970, a GCMG in 1979, and a GCVO in 1985. Sir Paul is married to Esmai McNeilly and has three stepchildren. |
