As a 19-year-old, Smith caught the eye with six consecutive half-centuries on tour in England, including 169 in the second U19 Test.
And, two years later, there are those who claim the left-hander's elevation to the Test side are already overdue.
The Grenadian opener has already impressed against international opposition, scoring 91 against the touring Indians a year ago.
And later that season, again in England, he was the leading run-scorer on the West Indies A tour, his aggregate of 465 includign 181 against Lancashire.
He has also enjoyed two prime first-class campaigns, leading the Windward Islands' batting with 572 runs in 14 innings this season thanks to patience allied to a large portfolio of strokes.
