Derek's 1956 Buick Special

I bought this car in 2001 over eBay Motors. The car came from Red Deer, Alberta. To get to this point, you have pretty much heard the story, so I won't go any further with it. I have advertised this car for sale locally, but there hasn't been much interest. I don't have a whole lot invested in it and it isn't deteriorating too much in storage, so I will likely hang onto it. Eventually, if I run out of other cars to work on, I will probably get going on a restoration.

This photo was taken with a disposable camera and scanned, so the quality isn't that great.

The sticker on the trunk is actually a dealer in Saskatchewan. I think it was Raymore, but I would have to double-check. GM Canada's historical services did confirm that this car was originally sent to a dealership in Saskatchewan. So, it has spent some time in all three Prairie Provinces.

As you can see from the speedo, this car looks like it is moving even when it is standing still....

The 50s really had a lot of style and design work that you don't normally see today.

The 322 ci V8 needs some work. When I brought the car home, fuel wasn't filling the filter, so I replaced the fuel pump. That enabled it to fire, but it won't stay running. The 322 was Buick's first V8, introduced in 1953 on all models except the Special, which kept the straight 8 for another year. For 1956, there were two versions of this engine - the one for the Special with lower compression and one with higher compression used in all the other models.
