Ted would like to know if you have any information (policies, guidelines, experience,
etc) regarding
employees intervening in criminal or suspicious activities during work hours. A couple of his
employees intervened in a "criminal act" and although the incident ended without incident
it raises
several issues not least of which is liability.
There was an article in the Province of May 26th (BC in Brief - see below) which
referred to the
CUPE City Watch and the fact it has been in place for several years and there has been training for
CUPE employees on how to deal with these type of situations, however when Ted approached the
Union they knew nothing of it.
