QUESTION
Brian Carter (Port Moody) would like some feedback regarding the proliferation of
"free" daily
newspapers & boxes ((i.e. DOSE, Metro, 24, etc..).
He would like to know if you could provide any information on the following.....
* Bylaws
* Insurance requirements
* Fees (i.e. highway use permit)
* Location Approval
* How many boxes/area/block/street/intersection
* Insurance
* Performance Bonds
* Graffiti
* Cost to remove and clean-up
* Accessibility
* Streetscape initiatives
* Reports to council on the issue
* Any success stories or policies?
Please send your response directly to Brian (brian.carter@cityofportmoody.com) or
phone (604)

RESPONSE
This item was discussed at
the June 9th, 2005 meeting. Several municipalities require permits to
place newpapaer boxes on municipal property. If there is no permit the boxes are taken away, the
newpaper company is notified and asked to pickup their boxes. If the boxes are on private property,
there is nothing that can be done.
For information on their policies,
call Jeff (Surrey) or Mike (Coquitlam)
