"D" URT consists of 16 members located throughout the Province. The team is responsible for rescues, searching for and recovery of physical evidence related to criminal activities, suspected drowning victims, suspected explosive devices, lost or missing articles, as well as assisting other government agencies in their investigations.

"D" URT received 19 requests for assistance in dive operations during 1997, the first on 1997-04-22 and the last on 1997-12-20.

As well as the dive operations "D" URT participated in the RCMP Elimination of Racism Day at "D" Division H.Q., the Red River Exhibition Parade and the Public Safety Display at the Mid-Canada Boat Show co operating with organizations such as the Red Cross, Canadian Coast Guard and Winnipeg Harbour Master.

In May three URT members received Commanding Officer's Commendations for their actions which resulted in the nighttime rescue of five men stranded on an unstable ice flow on Lake Manitoba in December of 1994.

"D" URT, in a continuing partnership with Scouts Canada, is active in sponsoring an RCMP Venturers Company. In February of 1997 five Venturers commenced an entry level SCUBA course. Training sessions were conducted once a week by Canadian Coast Guard and RCMP instructors at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Freshwater Institute and the University of Manitoba swimming pool.

In May two Venturers were successful in obtaining their PADI Open Water Diver scuba certification.
