About the artist

Pauline A. Braun is a mixed media artist who lives and works in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Pauline lived in Northern Manitoba for most of her life and a formal art education was not an option. She pursued other avenues of inspiration and development. She studied design and watercolour through distance education programs at Lethbridge Community College and the University of Regina. For four years Pauline attended the annual Arts West Retreats near Riding Mountain National Park where she studied drawing and mixed media. After moving to Winnipeg in 2003, Pauline was able to take advantage of programs offered by the Winnipeg Art Gallery Studio and Manitoba Printmakers Association Martha Street Studio. She is currently participating in the Mentoring Artists for Women's Art (MAWA) Foundation Mentorship Program.

Pauline's work has been featured in solo exhibitions at the Leaf Rapids National Exhibition Centre, Leaf Rapids, Manitoba; the Heritage North Museum in Thompson, Manitoba; and the Portage and District Arts Centre in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. In June, 2007, the Estevan Art Gallery & Museum, Estevan, Saskatchewan, hosted a solo show of Pauline's coloured pencil paintings, "I Can't Believe It's Coloured Pencil!" Her work has been included in many group shows the most recent being "Journeys," curated by Milly Giesbrecht, at the Mennonite Heritage Centre Gallery and "North South Emergence" a touring exhibition curated by Kristen Pauch for the Manitoba Arts Network. Pauline's work has been accepted in many regional, provincial and international juried exhibitions.

Pauline received Manitoba Arts Council Visual Arts C Grants in 2005 and 2006. In 2005 she received an Individual Artist B Grant from the Winnipeg Arts Council.
