BURROWS
Francis called Frederick Burrows was born 21 Dec 1816 in Sligo Town, County Sligo, Ireland, now in the Irish Republic.

He is my great-great grandfather.


Francis  Burrows in about 1870 in Canada.

  He emigrated from Ireland about 1836 and married Martha Potts in New York City in 1837/38.  He obtained land in Canada in 1837 when he was age 21. 

He worked as a furnisher polisher and gilder (finisher) at Jacques and Hay in Toronto for several years and  cleared his land and farmed on weekends.  He and Martha lived near King City, King Township, York County, Ontario.
They are my great-great grandparents.

Martha Potts Burrows about 1880 in King, York County, Ontario.

She was born in 1810 in Ballybay, County Monaghan, Ireland, the daughter of James Potts and Jane Hawksby, and was one of 15 children, many of whom died when small.  Her grandparents were George Hawksby and Frances Jackson of Little Skreeny, County Leitrim and Sligo Town, County Sligo, Ireland. 
She and Frederick had 5 children. 
The eldest, James, born 1839 in Toronto, is my great-grandfather.

James Burrows married Joann 'Ann' Young, the eldest daughter of Robert Young and Grizel Gillies, on 18 March 1859 at Eversly near King City, Ontario. 

She was born 21 Dec 1839 in Galston parish, Ayrshire, Scotland. 
They moved to Keppel Township, Grey County,  Ontario in 1869. 
They had 14 children. 
The youngest, Lucinda 'Cindy' is my grandmother.

This is her first day of school and she told me she didn't want to go and so her parents bribed her with the stick of peppermint candy she's holding in her hand.

James Burrows, age 70, 1909.  Gramma's dad.  He lived with Gramma and Grampa at the farm at Boulton after Joann died.
