THE PRECIOUS LETTERS Our family is fortunate to have letters written by the two oldest generations of BURROWS that I have yet located. Our thanks to Julia Sexsmith for sharing the oldest letters with us. Burrows Letters 1 are written from Sligo Town, County Sligo, Ireland by Frederick BURROWS, my great-great-great grandfather, to his sons, Frederick (mine), George and William, all living in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. They are dated 1843, 1850 and 1851. Frederick was born 12 April 1773, probably in Sligo Town, father James BURROWS. Frederick was a commercial clerk/accountant who worked for the shipping firm of Abraham Martin of Sligo Town. He died 18 Mar 1855 and is buried in St. John's Churchyard, Sligo Town, County Sligo, Ireland. *************** Burrows Letters 2 are written by his son, also Frederick BURROWS, my great-great grandfather, at his farm near Eversley near King City, King Township, York County, Ontario, Canada, to his son, James BURROWS. They are dated 1886, 1887, 1888, 1888 and 1890. Frederick was born 21 December 1816 in Sligo Town, County Sligo, Ireland, and emigrated via New York City about 1836. He worked as a furniture polisher and gilder at Jacques and Hay Furniture in Toronto and worked his farm at King on weekends for many years. He died 25 February 1893 and is buried in King City Cemetery, King City, York County, Ontario, Canada. His son, James, my great-grandfather, lived in Keppel Township, Grey County, Ontario, Canada at this time. There is a further letter dated 1892 from Thomas BURROWS, brother to the elder Frederick, to his nephew, James in Keppel. **Please
