FIVE-DAY
CHURCHILL BIRDING TOUR
DAY
1
After
arrival and check-in at your hotel, we will head out to find
some life birds for your list. The productive harbours board
ponds will be our first stop. These ponds are a good feeding
and resting spot for various ducks and shorebirds. The Churchill
River shoreline will be our next stop. Here we will scan the
river for Common
Eiders,
Pacific and Red Throated Loons, Scoters and other waterfowl.
This is also a good place for shorebirds.
From
here, we will proceed to Cape Merry where a spectacular arctic
vista awaits us. As the ice moves in and out of the river mouth,
many gulls and Arctic Terns feed there. It is also possible
to see three species of jaegers and perhaps even a Harlequin
Duck. The combined calls of all these birds can be most impressive.
