Choy's Sister Restaurants:
History Henry Choy, Allen's father, originally opened the Boston Cafe in Strathclair after working on the Canadian Pacific Railways in the early 1900s. After returning from Montreal, Henry ran restaurants in Langruth and Griswold, Manitoba. Henry returned to China during WWII to visit his wife who was not allowed under Canadian Law (Chinese Immigration Act) at the time to come to Canada. Caught during the Japanese invasion, Henry and Allen struggled starvation with Henry's wife passing away never to see Canada.
Allen arrived from war torn China and Hong Kong in 1951. In 1958, Judy Choy arrived in Canada. Together, Allen and Judy opened Allen's Cafe in Strathclair where American and Chinese dishes were served for over 40 years. In 1971, Allen opened C+E Supplies with Bob English, selling electronics, sporting goods, snowmobiles, motorcycles and boats. Allen and Judy Choy's Restaurant opened in 1993 in Shoal Lake with a banquet and game room facility. Sister restaurants opened in the 1990s with Boissevain, Brandon, Rossburn and Esterhazy, Saskatchewan. The latest expansion is in Binscarth Manitoba just off Highway 16 the Yellowhead Route, with full Canadian and Chinese meals, fast food, soft ice-cream, confectionary and Esso gas bar. We are proud of our Canadian and Chinese food thank you for your patronage! |
