IN A MAGIC KINGDOM

“What happens when you die?”

After stepping into the role of Katrina in WONDEBAR! in 2008 and co-producing Toronto Fringe hit UNDERNEATH THE LINTEL (*****EYE TORONTO) for John D. Huston, Celeste Sansregret returns to the 2009 Fringe circuit with shows in Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg and Edmonton. In a Magic Kingdom is a funny, candid and personal look at this life - and the next.

EDMONTON'S VUE WEEKLY GIVES IN A MAGIC KINGDOM FOUR STARS!

Rating: **** (out of 5)

A program leaflet pays thanks to the performer’s shrink, which should make anyone excited. Winnipeg’s Celeste Sansregret reflects on past encounters with death, and perhaps more importantly, life – those expired include her grandmother, father, good friend, and one too devastating to reveal. Each thread has an emotional weight that contributes to Sansregret’s struggle to know what happens when we die, building a perspective more individual and reassuring than the Catholic dogma she describes being raised on. Any therapist would be lucky to have such an entertaining patient.

WINNIPEG PERFORMANCES A HIT WITH AUDIENCES AND CRITICS ALIKE!

"…Celeste Sansregret is the heart and soul of this one-person show - a highly personal exploration of life, death, Catholicism and what lies beyond when we shed this mortal coil…Sansregret is an engaging and appealing actress, whose diminutive frame belies a very large spirit. The losses she has faced are heartbreaking but in the end Sansregret stands full of life."
- Barb Stewart UPTOWN WINNIPEG

"Celeste Sansregret presents an hour of well written, carefully prepared material in this one-woman play about coping with death and loss. She uses the Catholic education received about the afterlife to tie together a series of incidents from her life, and show how she learned to accept the tragedies that life inevitably sends our way. I really admired both her courage and the meticulously detailed performance. Celeste has a great presence on stage, and has great delivery."
- Kevin Langfield, THE JENNY REVUE

EYE WEEKLY Review:

“All of you in this room are going to die — 100 per cent.” Celeste Sansregret utters this not as a threat but as a simple fact most people prefer to ignore. Instead of her usual fictive narratives, Sansregret’s show is an autobiographical memoir focused on her changing reactions to the deaths of friends and relatives. She begins with the Catholic dogma she was taught as a girl of the three realms of the afterlife. Telling her stories with humour, compassion and acute attention to detail, Sansregret creates poetry out of fact as she reaches her own conclusion that, indeed, the dead still live.

Twelve years of Catholic school were supposed to answer all Celeste’s questions about life – and death. As an adult, Sansregret realizes her education has done nothing to prepare her for dead people in dreams, suicidal ideation, organ donor wait lists, out-of-body experiences or a father who has a heart attack a year.
