Using your own hands, natural materials, and skills to transform a hide from its original state to soft finished leather or rawhide is a rewarding experience that forms a relationship between you and the animal, the past and the present, and extends and honours the animal's beauty into the future. It is a humbling experience to go back to the ancient arts, to see, feel, and learn the ways of those who depended upon the the animals and their own skills to survive.

Drum building workshops are also available upon request. I have worked with many different groups of people, from kindergarten classes to adults, in many different settings. I always work together in cooperation with 1st Nations elders or cultural teachers when teaching about drums.

If you want to make use of the hides you have, want to learn an ancient, functional and practical art, or would value the insight and skill required to create handmade natural leather or rawhide yourself, I can arrange instruction to suit you individual or group needs, at my location or yours. I can provide hides and tools for hands-on, complete start to finish tanning workshops spread out over a number of days, weekend crash courses with partially prepared hides, afternoon demonstrations, or information presentations.
