Paint/Misc
Home Up

I had to put the craft on its side to fiberglass the bottom. While it was on its side I also started putting primer on as I completed the glassing. I am using a Plastic quick dry primer from General paint. IM001048.jpg (57549 bytes)
climbed up the stairs and took a picture. As I mentioned I am priming as I complete sections, here you can see the lift duct and the deck. IM001052.jpg (67181 bytes)
a different day, more progress IM001067.jpg (61145 bytes)

This is a great idea from Gord Gowie. Every hove requires a revolving warning light a stern navigation light.

Start with your basic Revolving warning light

This is a light duty truck backup light. IM001064.jpg (69115 bytes)
This is a 3 inch PVC Cap with a hole drilled in the center IM001065.jpg (64352 bytes)
This is the finished unit, I think it is neat, I will just Velcro it to the top of the duct when needed.

This unit will need to be wired, but you get the general idea here.

This the engine mount painted, with the muffler painted as well. I think it turned out pretty good. IM001183.jpg (71675 bytes)
This picture shows that the cockpit and engine area were painted with a Grey enamel paint. IM001352.jpg (72246 bytes)
I have purchased the paint for the Finnish coat. I chose a Marine Hi Gloss enamel from General Paint. It says on the can that the paint is tough enough for marine and light industrial applications. And is designed as a top coat for the plastic primer I used. The color scheme that I will be using is White and Red. IM001492.jpg (63332 bytes)

I have painted the bottom of the craft with the white Finnish coat. I painted up to the skirt attach strip. I will paint the rest after I have completed the craft. IM001488.jpg (60794 bytes)
.
A picture of the bottom, not that pretty, hopefully I won't be flying upside down, so it really does not matter IM001494.jpg (65034 bytes)
I have taped off the skirt attach strip, I will be painting this red because that is the color of the skirt. IM001498.jpg (56352 bytes)
Work in progress IM001499.jpg (65871 bytes)
all done, ready for the skirt. IM001500.jpg (65824 bytes)
Preparing the craft for paint, I covered all areas that should not get paint.
I am not a artist so I thought I would draw out the flames on paper first, this gave me a good Idea of what the it would look like when it was done.
This pictures shows the coat of white paint.
I needed to paint the middle parts of the rudders as well.
This is the glue I used to stick the templates onto the masking tape.
So, If you look carfull, I have masked off the area that I want to keep white. The masking tape is blue. I then gave the tape a quick spray with the glue above and rolled on the template.

The next step was to use a knife and cut out all the areas that you want to paint red. This took a long time. You can see the leafs on the rudders and the Name on the duct. This picture is was taken just before I applied the paint.
First coat of red applied.
all done. Sure looks fast, I did practice doing multi color flames before I did this paint job, I was playing around with blending white to yellow to orange to purple. looked pretty good, but I decided simple is best(easy to repair). I think it turned out good.
