FROM THE
AUTHOR
It took me nearly a year
to research and write Serotonin - little did I realize when I undertook
it that the subject matter would prove to be so broad. As a result, the
final product - slim though it is was pre-destined to be (just 48 pages,
the standard length for my publisher's Good Health Guide series) - may
be low-cal; but it's the fruit of a very large and carefully digested meal.
If you're curious about the connection that the neurotransmitter serotonin
might have to your aches or ails and the various ways you may be able to
boost it naturally and gain some relief in the process, this booklet can
give you the lay of the land, and then some.
The evidence suggests that
if you suffer from any of the following conditions, serotonin boosting
could help: depression of any kind, bipolar disorder (aka manic-depression),
any anxiety disorder (e.g. obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder,
social phobia), premenstrual syndrome, schizophrenia and other psychoses,
poor impulse control (e.g. addictions and eating disorders, rage attacks,
impulsive criminal or other antisocial activities, compulsive self-mutilation),
chronic pain, insomnia, Parkinson's disease and neurologic movement disorders
in general, some forms of epilepsy, autism, Tourette's syndrome, attention
deficit hyperactivity disorder, and even Alzheimer's disease or other forms
of senile dementia.
