Concert Series 2008-2009

“It gives me great pleasure to present our latest selection of artists for the 2008-09 entertainment series. The programming committee for the DDAAC has focused its energies to present a rich and colorful tapestry of talent featuring many Manitoba artists. We’ve blanketed the genres with concerts ranging from Aboriginal rock, rockabilly, folk rock and indie rock to roots guitar, blues guitar and country blues. Join us for our magic carpet ride that is the WAC 2008-09 concert series”.

October
Alex Cuba
October 16, 2008

His trademark sugarcane-sweet melodies, pop-soul hooks an rock chords subtly subvert commonly held notions of what Cuban music is. http://www.myspace.com/alexcuba
November
The John Henrys
  November 6, 2008
They’ve got the “cosmic country-rock sounds of Gram Parsons-era Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers down to a science. Sweet little bits of heartache underneath pedal steel and raucous barroom sing-alongs...what’s not to love?” - ITunes Canada . Ottawa based the John Henry’s sophomore album ‘Sweet as the Grain’ is a remarkable mix of sweetly laid back alt-country and sixties influenced rock. www.myspace.com/thejohnhenrys
January
Chris Goertzen and the Hazy Pilgrims
  January 23, 2009
Described as fusion of the country roots of Steve Earle, the bluesy rock ‘n’ roll of the Rolling Stones and the raw power of Big Sugar. Singer-guitarist Chris Goertzen belts out “gritty roots-rock twangers” or “finger picked folk” with his trio backing him with solid backbeats and moaning slide guitars. www.myspace.com/hazypilgrims.
February
