Carberry Plains
Archives operates under a policy and mandate granted to us by
the Town of Carberry and the Rural Municipality of North
Cypress. That policy and mandate states, in part:
STATEMENT
OF PURPOSE:
The
purpose of the Archives:
-
To
acquire, preserve and document archival material which
illustrates the growth and development of the Town of
Carberry and the Rural Municipality of North Cypress both
before and after incorporation, or the immediate
surrounding areas relating to the above.

To
manage and preserve the collection accumulated by the Town
of Carberry and Rural Municipality of North Cypress and
Carberry Plains Museum
-
Provide
educational use of the collection by the public and
outreach programming whenever possible and to increase
public awareness and appreciation of history and
development.
COLLECTIONS
AND ACQUISITIONS:
The
Archives shall collect and acquire archival material in a
manner consistent with the statement of purpose.

The
Archives shall collect only materials which are adequately
documented and to which ethical and legal ownership can be
established.

The
Archives will only accept material on a permanent basis
except to borrow for a short term loan to reproduce or
copy (or to include in a display or exhibit for a given
period of time).

The
Archives shall encourage donations as a primary method of
acquisition but it will be he decision of the Board to
accept donations pertaining to other archival areas.
The authority to acquire objects through purchase shall be
the responsibility of the Board

The
Archives shall collect only those objects for which it can
provide proper and continuing care and space in accordance
with professional archival standards

Every
acquisition shall be formalized with a legal receipt
transferring ownership to the Archives
-
The
Archives shall acquire the collection in accordance with
the laws of provincial and federal governments of Canada
and international agreements between Canada and other
countries.
