About the Brown Album: I took these photographs in Egypt, Palestine, Transjordan (now Jordan), and South Africa in 1942 and 1943. The album I purchased in Amman (see "At the Photo Shop" below) with the intention of compiling something that could be mailed home and passed around to anyone who was interested. It was mailed in October and arrived in October of the following year.
About the Black Album: Pictures taken in Sicily, Italy, England, and Scotland, and lots more pictures from Africa.
Atop a Pyramid, Giza, 1942: "A long way up -- but we made it! A 17 minute climb."

At the Photo Shop, Amman, August 1942: "Armed to the teeth. Belongs to the Camel Corps."
