What is a Conservation District?
A Conservation District is an organization of local people co-operating to manage the natural resource and solve the resource management problems of their area for the long term benefit of everyone.  The first District was established in 1972.  A district is established under the Conservation Districts Act, Chapter C175, Revised Statutes of Manitoba (R.S.M.)1987.

District boundaries are generally based on the drainage basin or watershed of the major rivers in the area and may include part of or all of several municipalities.  However, the boundaries may vary depending on the needs of the residents of the area.

The backbone of the Manitoba Conservation Districts is the watershed management.  The primary goal of the Districts is the sustainable use of the water and soil resources and maintaining and/or improving the environmental social, and economics of Agro-Manitoba.

Each district has a board of local representatives chosen by the member municipalities to conduct the business of the board.
