Tom Hainsworth was born  in  a log house on N.W. 14-2-23 W. near Deloraine, Manitoba. On October 19, 1943, he and Lucy Jane Ketchum from Arcola, Saskatchewan were married. They raised children Arthur Tom, and Bernie Eileen. He attended Bayview and Grove Schools, and then he began  farming. He was elected  Councillor in the R.M. of Winchester in 1930 and served in that capacity for 17 years, and as  Reeve for 23 years. 

Mr. Hainsworth was chosen to work on numerous boards: as President of the Union of Manitoba Municipalities, the Deloraine Agricultural Society, the Chamber of Commerce, Secretary of the local United Grain Growers,  the Manitoba Good Roads Association, (He was also made a life member of this group.), the P.F.A.A. Board of Review, the Turtle Mountain Resource Conservation Board and the Westman Advisory Board.

His contributions were very important. While  with the Chamber of Commerce he encouraged the Department of Public Works to build  new all weather Provincial Highways #3 and #21 in southwestern Manitoba. As secretary of the United Grain Growers he helped to bring about  the construction of an elevator on the Canadian Pacific line to replace elevators that were lost when the C.N.R. line was abandoned. While on the Turtle Mountain Resource Conservation Board he helped to develop agricultural and public relations programs that were positive improvements.  Another important promotional group  was Westman Regional Development Inc. He was influential on this Board and helped to offer service and assistance to promote economic development to every citizen in western Manitoba. As Judge with the Good Roads Association, he was responsible for many improvements. On the Board of Review of the P.F.A.A., he promoted  the completion of the Turtle Head Creek dam project. He also served on the International Peace Garden Association. 

Locally, Tom helped the  Board of Stewards replace their church. He  sat on the Steering Committee which built the new skating rink with artificial ice, was  chairman of the Deloraine Hospital Board, and  served as trustee on the District and Division School Boards as well as being  the Vice-Chairman of the Bren-Del-Win Lodge. For his many contributions he received the Manitoba "Good Citizenship" Award. 

Tom Hainsworth was a man of integrity and was of great value to his community and province.
