Landscape Dancing in the City

Winnipeg 2003

An automatic physical transformation takes place when dances created in the studio or the classroom are transported to specific sites in the city. We create dance etudes in the studio. The etudes were inspired by exquisite stone sculptures, brimming with life, movement and mythology. Then we take the etudes to a complimentary site in the city. The matrix of the movement is enhanced by new and specific surroundings. As the creative process continues Landscape Dancing evolves. We just keep moving and make connections inside and outside of the studio. It is our hope that Landscape Dancing will be the seed for a two year pilot project beginning in the summer of 2004. We are committed to embracing the need to create dances in new and innovative places. We are providing our emerging and professional dance artists an opportunity to participate in a creative process that makes connections. Dance as an art form, dance as an educational tool, dance as a natural and intrinsic part of the human condition.

Landscape Dancing in the City is a result of a choreographic research and development project, supported by the
Canada Council for the Arts and the School of Contemporary Dancers.

Millennium Dance Project

2000

As I grow with experience I am stunned by the reality of the new millennium. This project is focused on the integration of age and experience. Having just turned 50 I find my love affair with dance is increasing. New creations and recreations will allow the deep connective tissues between my work (as choreographer) and my body (as it ages) to merge and reveal the possibilities of a continuum.
