Shay-Lee joined the MADRG as a Research Assistant and undergraduate thesis student in April 2004. She completed her Bachelors of Science (Honours) in Psychology from the University of Manitoba in April 2005. She is currently pursuing her Masters of Science in Community Health Sciences at University of Manitoba. Her thesis focuses on a comparison of suicidal behaviours between an American Indian on-reserve sample and a US general population sample, illustrating the differences in prevalence and risk factors for suicidal behaviours between these two populations.

Shay-Lee's research interests lie in the areas of mental health, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, suicidal behaviours, traumatic life events, at-risk populations and Aboriginal populations. Shay-Lee was supported by a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Canada Graduate Scholarship -Master's Award, and is currently supported by a Manitoba Health Research Council Graduate Studentship and a studentship from the Western Regional Training Centre for Health Services Research. In October 2007, Shay-Lee was awarded a CIHR Brain Star Award for her recent publication on traumatic events and suicidal behaviours.
