Dr. Furer is a clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Clinical Health Psychology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba. She is a clinician-researcher with the Anxiety Disorders Program. She provides individual and group cognitive-behavioral treatments for adults with various anxiety disorders, including panic disorder, social phobia, obsessive- compulsive disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder, as well as intense illness concern (hypochondriasis) and depression. Dr. Furer is also involved in training with clinical psychology interns and senior clinical psychology practicum students.

Dr. Furer's main research interests at the present time are the development of a cognitive- behavioral group treatment protocol for intense illness concern and exploration of childhood illness and death-related events in adults with intense illness concern. Her research has been supported in part by a grant from the Manitoba Health Research Council. She is presently conducting a controlled trial evaluating the group treatment approach for intense illness concern.
