Welcome!
The
objective of this home page is to tell you something about me, my family, and my
interests. While I am retired, I am busier than ever so this continues to
be a "work in progress".
My
Past
I
was born in Sherridon, Manitoba where my Franco-Manitoban
mother (Olive) was the mayor's secretary and my Swedish-born father (Erik) worked
for Sherritt Gordon Mines. In 1946 we moved to my mother's home town
of
The
Pas,
Manitoba where I was raised (along with my two brothers:
Leif
and
Lance).
In 1959 I graduated from The Pas Collegiate Institute and then attended the
University of Manitoba and Manitoba Teachers College in Winnipeg, MB. In
1962 I began a 37 year teaching career, most of it with Kelsey School
Division in The Pas as a public school administrator at all levels, culminating
in the principalship of
Margaret
Barbour Collegiate
Institute.
I married a teacher (Rosemarie Schiefele of Flin Flon) and we passed on the family genes to
our two sons: Sean
(an RCMP
Sergeant) and Kelly (a
Middle School Principal).
My
teaching career allowed me to travel the world, assisting in
training teachers and principals in developing countries, and participating
in teacher organizations at the local,
provincial,
national
and international levels. Got you curious? Click on
"My CV" (curriculum
vitae)
and "My
Travels" buttons for
the full details.
My
Present
The arrival of our first
grandchild (Fallon) in 1999, the second (Griffin) in 2001,
and the third (Xander)
in 2004 brought Granny
Rose and Farfar Vaughn into the grand-parenting phase of our lives, a delightful task.
See the "Photos" page for
pictures of our grandkids.
I am active with the
Charlebois
Council
of the Knights of Columbus (Grand Knight, Webmaster),
The
Pas Retired Teachers Association
(Past-President and Secretary-Treasurer),
the Canadian Association
of Retired Teachers (Vice-President, Regional Representative-West), The Pas & Area Citizens on Patrol Program (Secretary),
and the Kelsey School Division
(Trustee, Vice-Chair). I
conduct Peer Assisted Leadership (PAL) workshops for the Manitoba Council for
Leadership in Education. Since we became cottage owners in 2002, our summers
are spent relaxing at beautiful Clearwater Lake.
