
1. WARNING!
Anyone caught breaking the rules of this tournament will be disqualified from this and/or all future Canadian Walleye Championship
Tournaments and/or will be charged with FRAUD under the CRIMINAL CODE of CANADA at the discretion of the committee.
2. ELIGIBILITY
All persons 18 years or older are eligible to enter. Anglers under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
3. WAIVER
Promoters and organizations assisting in tournament operation, their agencies and agents are not responsible for death, injury,
damage, liability, theft, fire or any loss to any entrants. Each entrant, upon signing an entry form, will in effect be signing a waiver.
4. REQUIREMENTS
(a) Each contestant will be in possession of a valid Manitoba fishing license.
(b) Each entrant will be required to have a U.S. Coast Guard or Canadian approved personal flotation device and will be urged to
wear same at all times when in the boat.
(c) All contestants are required to observe Canadian rules and regulations concerning safe boating.
(d) All boats will be required to meet U.S. Coast Guard or Canadian safety regulations.
(e) All boats must carry the appropriate registration in accordance with the regulations of the boat owner’s home state or province.
(f) Live wells must be used by all teams. These live wells must be aerated to retain live fish.
(g) Boats may be equipped with electric trolling motors.
(h) Electronic and electrical depth finders, thermometer, oxygen meters, etc. are allowed.
(i) Underwater cameras are allowed.
5. TOURNAMENT BOUNDARIES
All waters downstream from the Powerview Hydro Dam to Devils Island. The boundary shall be an imaginary line from the back
tip of Devil’s Island running north to south the length of the Bay.
6. REQUIRED ACTIVITIES
(a) All contestants are required to attend the pre-tournament meal and rules night to be held at Papertown Motor Inn, Friday,
October 24th, 2008 at 5:30 PM.
(b) All contestants are required to co-operate with members of the press for interviews or photographs.
7. PROTESTS
(a) Any contestant has the right to make a protest against another contestant. A protest form will be available from the tournament
chairman and must be filled out and presented to the chairman within one hour of the close of the fishing day.
(b) A $150.00 protest fee will be required to accompany any formal protest. The fee will be returned if the protest is found to be
valid by the protest committee.
(c) Any contestant involved in a protest must be on call for three hours following the end of the fishing day.
8. PRIZES
(a) All prizes will be based on most weight during the two days of the tournament.
(b) Prizes will be awarded on a team basis.
(c) In case of a tie, the winner will be decided by the greatest weight taken on the final day subject to final checks by the officials.
(d) Payout of prizes is based on number of entries at a payout of 90%.
9. WEIGH-IN
(a) The scale will be open throughout the fishing day.
(b) Each team will be responsible for their own catch. Under no circumstances may anyone other than the contestants handle or
touch the catch until presented for weigh-in.
(c) A team member will accompany the catch to the scale. Each team will receive a copy of their scale ticket each time a fish is
weighed. The scale tickets are to be initiated by a team member.
(d) An unloading area will be designated immediately in front of the weigh-in area and will be for unloading fish only.
(e) Any fish deemed to be unreleasable by weigh-in officials will be subject to a penalty of one pound.
10. FISHING HOURS AND STARTING
(a) Fishing will begin at 8:00 AM and will end at 4:15 PM Saturday & Sunday. All boats must be inspected before they leave in
their respective flights.
(b) 8 hours of fishing time is allowed for each flight. Contestants who return late will be penalized 5% of their total weight for each
minute late and will be disqualified from any large walleye prize.
(c) Boats will be leaving in two flights.
11. BOAT IDENTIFICATION AND SECURITY
(a) All contestant boats will be identified with 2 colored decals. Team numbers will be assigned when applicants are notified of
their acceptance.
(b) Boats may be inspected before and during the tournament. Tournament officials will be checking boats at the launch area and
patrol boats may be patrolling the fishing area.
12. FISHING
(a) Only walleye and sauger will be included in official totals.
(b) Only those fish caught on a hook and line in a normal manner will be accepted. All hooks being used to fish must be barbless.
(c) Each fisherman will be allowed to have only one line in the water at a time. Spare rods and equipment may be carried in the
boat.
(d) Live bait and artificial bait and lures are allowed. Electronic or electrical luring devices are prohibited.
(e) Only five (5) fish per day will be weighed and only two of these may exceed 55cm (pinch tail measurement). Each angler is
allowed to only weigh-in one fish over 70cm for the tournament (pinch tail measurement).
(f) A contestant must not leave the boat to land a fish or untangle equipment or for any other reason during the fishing day.
(g) No more than five (5) fish may be in your live well at one time.
(h) Entrants will conduct themselves as true sportsmen when fishing near another boat. No boat may touch another boat.
(i) Any team not abiding by the Manitoba angling regulations will be disqualified.
(j) Any team found putting dead fish back into the water will be disqualified.
(k) No contestant will be allowed to fish after 4:00 PM on the day before the tournament.
(l) A team may not fish to replace a disqualified fish.
13. OTHER PRIZES
(a) Contingency prizes may be made available by contributors, supporters, and other parties.
(b) Rules for these prizes may be stipulated by those offering the prize.
(c) Only live and releasable fish will qualify for any big fish award.
14. MISCELLANEOUS
(a) If one of the two team members drops out before the tournament he may be replaced by the choice of the remaining team
member. The committee must be notified in writing of the change before the tournament.
(b) If an entire team drops out the place will be filled by the tournament committee and not by the choice of the team that drops
out. The entry fee /deposit will only be returned if that place can be filled by another team.
(c) Dead fish will be retained by the committee and given to charity.
(d) Cellular telephones will not be allowed in boats during the tournament.
15. "SPIRIT OF THE RULE"
All rules have "loopholes". It is the intention of the organizers to provide an honest sportsmanlike tournament. In the interest of
good sportsmanship, contestants are reminded that "the spirit of the rule" will prevail in all judgment cases and the decisions
of the committee are final.
