About us...
The Interlake Radio Control Flying Club is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the building and flying of radio controlled model aircraft. Our field is located off of Highway #8, South of Gimli, just turn West down Minerva Road. We have about 30 members at the present time varying in age from 16 to about eighty years young. Our club was founded by a group of gentlemen after the Gimli Model Fest in 2004.
Our club holds a monthly general meeting at Hangar 1 in the Industrial Park, the last Monday of each month. Meeting's start at 7:00 p.m. C.S.T. Attending these meeting is the best way to meet the members, and get started with us.
What do we have to offer? LOTS !!! During the course of the year, we hold many model airplane events. Our annual Gimli Model Fest is the highlight of the year with as many as 2000 spectators and over 100 pilots. See more details of this event at www.sportrc.com/gimli.html, we also have novice days twice a week usually on Sunday and Wednesday's. On these nights experienced pilots are on hand to help the novice get started. We also have many more fun events planned for the year. You do not have to be a Member of MAAC to join our Club however you do need MAAC to Fly at our Airstrip. More information on this is covered at our Monthly meetings. Our Membership fee is $20.00 per year renewable in January. If you are not already a member of MAAC and you'd like to be, you can download their application form from their website www.maac.ca.
It is never too late to start the hobby. R/C flight training is available to club members at no charge. Our instructors are volunteers, so there may be a waiting list to get an instructor assigned to you. Students are taken on a first come first served basis. The Chief Flying Instructor will be able to tell you more about the flight training program. Most beginners will not have the skills to fly R/C aircraft and should not attempt to fly their model without prior flight training. The plane, radio and support equipment to get started can cost as little as $200.00.
How to join....if you are interested in joining the Interlake Radio Control Model Club, contact one of the club executives, by phone or email, or visit us at the flying field.
