12th Annual Canadian National Jacobin Show Best Ever.
A real good, feel good show.

First of all we have Bob Pilchar to thank for inviting us to show with him and the Western Canadian National Show which he hosted in Brandon this past January 9th & 10th.The weather cooperated and we had what many of us consider to be the best Canadian National Jacobin show to date. The fellowship and good-will was incredible and we had a great time. Thank you to all of those who travelled so far to participate and who jumped in to help whenever they could. Trophy and financial donations, support for the Jacobin auction and helping to set up and tear down the show - all of this is what makes us strong. But none of it as much as the friendships, moral support, exchange of good birds, advice, respect and pride we take in each others accomplishments. It was particularly nice to finish the judging on Friday night so we had all of Saturday to visit and talk Jacobins with Dennis and each other. Exchanging birds and planning for the future of our breeding programs, our show and the Jacobin fancy in Canada. Nobody left until Sunday morning. The Judging was wonderful. Dennis Soares as the Judge was the icing on the cake for this show. All exhibitors agreed that his style and method of judging was easy to follow with good comments. When he was done each class we all felt comfortable because we could understand why he had placed the birds the way he did. I think we all felt proud when Guy Perreaut won Grand Champion with his Magnificent Mealy Y.C.. What an incredible Jacobin. This bird also went on to win Supreme Champion of the entire all breed show. It was also quite remarkable to see young birds win all of the top awards in the show as well as 8 of the 13 colour classes. This is a sign that the birds are really improving. The lineup of trophies was awesome. Thanks to Bob and Simone Pilchar who had the trophies made and in particular to Simone who hand painted each one to fit each colour class. Bob Donated Medallions to give to each exhibitor as well. A life size Red Jacobin Figurine was presented as an annual award to the Best Red Jacobin at the National in Memory of Joe Masnyk. This will be known as the Joe Masnyk Memorial trophy for Best Red Jacobin. Two other awards were presented to recognize Gord Edwards and Clint Robertson for their outstanding service to the Canadian Jacobin Fancy. Bob had secretly arranged for each Gord and Clint to present the awards to one another without each other knowing they were receiving it. What a surprise for both of them. We were also excited to pick up two new members both which are already experienced pigeon breeders but have decided to get back into Jacobins. Darrell Sebastian from Regina and Barry Sky from Maple Ridge, B.C.. Welcome aboard to both of you. A meeting was held on Saturday and new district directors were elected as follows: Ontario - east : Gord Edwards and Harry Top. Manitoba/Saskatchewan : Guy Perreault and Bob Pilchar. Alberta/B.C. : Laurel Kane and Todd Toews with Buddy Smart as an added director for the west coast. The 2004 Canadian National Jacobin Show will be held in Ontario to be hosted by the Canadian Jacobin Club with a date and location to be announced. The 2005 Canadian National will be held in Edmonton will a vote of a commitment to show from all in attendance. The Canadian National Master Breeder program was discussed and it was agreed that it is providing excitement and incentive and is working very well. All birds must be banded with special Canadian National Jacobin Show bands purchased through the CPFA to be eligible for points. It was decided to go with plastic bands for 2005. It was discussed and decided to ad a new amendment to the program to recognize outstanding achievements within a certain colour. Breeders who accumulate 250 points in a colour will be recognized as distinguished breeders in that colour. The Canadian Jacobin Breeders invite you to become part of this progressive group of breeders. Contact one of your district representatives or any Jacobin breeder in your area and get a pair and join your local Jacobin club. The support is there and the rewards are great. We will welcome you.
